When you begin training to become a pilot, you are always advised to use your checklist and do a proper preflight. It is extremely important to take your time and check everything on the airplane while you are on the ground. Simple preflight check of your fuel is so crucial that sometime even the best pilots forget to check.
As a student pilot, you may be in a hurry, but use that checklist and always check the amount of fuel you have for your flight on that day. If you are planning a cross country flight, remember that legally you should have at least 30 minutes of fuel reserve for a VFR flight and 45 minutes of fuel reserved for an IFR flight.
In case of an emergency, use the checklist to go through the engine failure procedure: airspeed, best place to land, and cockpit check.
