Back with another airplane review. Today we’re checking out the Grumman Tiger; model name Grumman American AA-5B Tiger. This has been one of the most requested aircraft for me to review. For your sake and mine, I needed to see this airplane for myself, and oh was I impressed.
First impression of the Grumman Tiger is that it looks, well, like a Grumman. Until the day this video was filmed, i’d only seen this aircraft on other videos or photos online. But the Tiger is no scrub, both in looks and in performance. Exterior of the airframe is mostly metal. You’ll find some fiber glass as well. The Tiger also comes with sliding doors, which can come in handy on those hot summer days.
Under the hood is a Lycoming IO 360 engine. This powers the airplane to cruise at 135 – 140 knots. Fuel burn is roughly 10-12 gallons per hour (51 gallons fuel tanks). The Grumman Tiger is a true four place cross country airplane. Step in the interior and see some more impressive parts of this aircraft. First thing you’ll notice on the inside is the upright sitting position. Some pilots may not like this but this means everything to a Pilot like me. Being able to sit upright and see everything above the dash is pretty sweet. Switches and controls are in within good length and arms reach. Look in the back, and You’ve got more sitting for 2 and a good amount of baggage area to carry up to 120 pounds.
The Grumman Tiger used can be found right around $50,000 to $60,000. You will see some in the market that are well equipped for even more.
