Just a day after becoming an instrument rated pilot, I’d planned to fly back home to Atlanta but I needed to stop by North Carolina first. I had a good flight plan, accounting for some possible thunderstorms in the vicinity.
Well by the morning of my flight, things became much worse than anticipated. Some convective activity had already developed North of the airport and was moving further south, so there was no way for me to takeoff at my planned time. I had to remain grounded for about 5 hours. Once I saw the storm activities move South, I decided to make a new flight plan where I would fly directly North West to stay clear of all the isolated thunderstorms.
I got a second and third opinion from well seasoned pilots and I was confident in my abilities to navigate through this weather giving my onboard equipment. Needless to say that I had a successful takeoff and landing at my destination, I also learned a lot as a Pilot on this flight. Hope you enjoy the flight video and stay safe!
