Trevor Jacob Plane Crash – Real or Staged?
As I’m sure many of you have already seen the trending video of Trevor Jacob simulating an engine failure midair and ditching the airplane to crash by the mountains somewhere. A cool stunt sure but sends all the wrong message about pilotage. I’m using this commentary video as an opportunity to bust some myth or correct some mistakes made by this pilot.
Myth#1 – The video shows pilot opening the door midair and looking down. This is not a safe practice for any GA pilot. matter of fact, no one does this in an emergency.
Myth#2 – Pilot pulls and push yoke of the aircraft after the engine went out. This also goes against the grain of what you’re supposed to do during an engine out. you’re suppose to set the plane to best glide speed in that situation.
Myth#3 – Pilot says he always wears a parachute incase of an emergency. Most civilian or GA pilots don’t wear a parachutes in flight. This clearly is a practice unique to Trevor.
Myth#4 – Pilot resigned to ditch the airplane during an engine failure. Again this goes against safety practice. Resigning to do nothing in an emergency is not the way to go. You keep flying the airplane!
